Hi Everyone,

I know some of you have made it down to check out all of the free community events at the containR gallery in Kensington, so you might be interested to know that another has popped up in East Village, at 439 8 Ave SE. Check it out to find a lot more free, creative things to do and be a part of.

The  March of Dimes Canada has partnered with 5 guys burgers and fries. If you eat at  5 guys between 5:30 & 9pm on Thursday August 24, and mention that you are a March of Dimes Supporter, or bring the attached flyer in, they will be giving 20% of the proceeds to March of Dimes Canada.

Supported Lifestyle’s personal development classes are back, featuring Sexual Education, Anger Management, Men's Group, Women's group, and BUDS. You will need to apply before September 1st. Please see the applications and information forms attached to this news posting.

Aug 15: Market on Stephen Ave @ 1 st SE -2st SW along Stephen Ave. market starts at 11am. Enjoy a walk downtown while checking out local artists and vendors.

Aug 15: Focus Group: Older LGBTQ+ Canadians @ Kerby Centre for the 55+. 10 am-Noon. This is a research event to get stories from the lived experiences of older adults who identify as LGBTQ+. Please RSVP if you plan on participating by emailing kkortesm@lakeheadu.ca.

Aug 15: Sunnyside Open Stage @ containR gallery in Kensington. 5-8pm. Whether you want to take part in the open jam or just come by to listen and be a part of the community, this free, welcoming event is a great end to your Tuesday.

Aug 17: The Golden Era: Canadian Reggae Music@ King Eddy Hotel (438 9 Ave SE). This is the free portion of the Calgary Reggae Fest.

Aug 18: Exploring Entrepreneurship @ Momentum (16-2936 Radcliffe Dr SE) 1:30-4pm “Join us for an orientation into entrepreneurship. We'll show you how to take your idea and turn it into a reality. We'll help you assess whether your idea is viable, as well as provide you with the tools, resources and guidance to help you along the way.” Please contact Elizabeth at 403 204 2671 or email elizabethl@momentum.orgif you wish to attend.

Aug 19: Calgary Korean Day Festival @ West Hillhurst (1940 6 Ave NW) 10am-6pm. Traditional dances, martial arts and more.

Aug 19 & 20: Alberta Open Farm Days @ Various Locations. See http://albertafarmdays.com/about-open-farm-days/to find out more about the farms and the experiences. There may be costs associated with some of the tours, so please use the experience planner on the website to ensure that you know what you are getting into.

Aug 15-26: GlobalFest Fireworks @ Elliston Park Tickets to each of the shows are currently $20. Direct Support Providers can attend for free. This year the fireworks displays will be representing different Canadian regions instead of countries from around the world. Tuesday Aug 15- The west, Thursday Aug 17- Prairies, Saturday Aug 19- Ontario, Tuesday Aug 22, Quebec, Thursday August 24- Atlantic, Saturday Aug 26- Finale. Aug 16: The NEW Guardians of the Galaxy @ Spruce Meadows. Gates open at 7:30, movie begins at dusk. Tickets are $15 per vehicle. Please visit https://www.sprucemeadows.com/tickets/movies.jsp?eid=1070for more info and to purchase tickets.

Aug 17: Milky Way Nights @ Rothney Astrophysical Laboratory (Priddis, AB). 10pm – midnight. Late night sky observation. $20 per vehicle.  https://www.ucalgary.ca/rao/2017_openhas a list of past and upcoming events and all of the information that you will need.

Aug 18-19: Reggaefest @ Shaw Millennium Park.  Fri 4-10pm, Sat Noon-11pm. Groups from Mexico, Jamaica, and all over Canada will bring the party to this yearly family festival. Tickets range from $25-$45. See http://www.reggaefest.ca/for details. 

Aug 18-20: Expo Latino @ Prince’s Island Park https://expolatino.com/has the scoop on all of the events and performances associated with this Hispanic arts festival.  Day passes are $10-$20, weekend passes are $20-$35, and there are still volunteer positions available!

Aug 18-20: YYC Taste the Trucks @ Riverwalk Plaza, East Village. $5 admission gets you in for the whole weekend, if you plan on buying food at the event, regular costs will apply.

Aug 19 & 20: Antiquing @ Acadia Recreational Complex (240 90 Ave SE) 10 am-4pm. $6 admission. Check out some antiques in a friendly atmosphere. See http://antiquesbydesignshows.com/events/antiquing-at-the-arc/for details.
