Here are some ideas for outings and fun things for the week of December 3 - December 9:

November 28 - December 31 (times vary - see link): Noel Indoor Light Park and Christmas Market - at Nutrien Western Event Centre (Stampede Tr. SE), Canada's largest indoor light park and Christmas market is coming to Calgary! Buy tickets early to save and check out all the attractions such as a interactive light park, food trucks, craft beer and spirits, Santa's Village, an artisan market and more! December 6 - 20 (Fridays: 4:00pm-9:00pm, Saturdays & Sundays: 10:00am-6:00pm): Holiday Market Collective - at BMO Centre, Stampede Park, Market Collective is holding its 11th annual holiday edition over the course of three weekends. There will be more than 150 local vendors, live music, interactive workshops, games, galleries, a food truck alley and more! Admission: $6 - one admission if for the entire weekend. :)

  • December 3 - 6 (12:00pm): Rockin' Around The Core Christmas Tree - the Core is presenting eight days of local performances. Head to the Core's Christmas tree very day at noon from November 29 - December 6.   • December 5 (7:00pm): AE West Artist Extravaganza Showcase  - at King Eddy (438 9 Ave SE), National Music Centre and Canada's Music Incubator present a free showcase of arts taking part in their "Artist Entrepreneur West" program. 
  • December 5 - 8 (10:00am-4:00pm): Come & See Santa's Reindeer – at Calgary Farmers' Market, check out Santa's reindeer! There will also be cookie decorating events ($10 minimum donation to the Calgary Food Bank to engage in the decorating events.)
  • December 7 (10:00am-4:00pm): A Christmas Gift Market - at YYC Growers Warehouse (18, 4750 106 Ave SE), head out for a one-day holiday market. Browse artisan goods from small, local businesses, take a gift-making workshop (fees for that workshop) and enjoy coffee from Devil's Head Coffee. Please bring a food donation if possible.

  • December 3 (7:00pm): Evening Birds - at the Ironwood (1229 9 Ave SE), this folk project by local singer-songwriter Kendall Rodney Bilan, at this intimate concert. Admission: $15.
  • December 4, 5, 6 & 7 (times vary - see link) A Christmas Story - At Rosebud Theatre, Bob Clark's 1983 holiday classic is taking stage. Admission: varies. For more information: https://www.rosebudtheatre.com/shows/a-christmas-story
  • December 4 (7:00pm): Wordfest Presents: Neil Pasricha (You Are Awesome) - at Central Library, Neil Pasricha's new book 'You Are Awesome' looks at the spike in anxiety, depression and dysfunction in the age of technology and modern convenience. He'll be talking about finding your inner awesome and building resiliency during this event. Admission: $20-25
  • December 4 (8:00pm): Loscil - at Studio Bell, catch electronic composer and multimedia artist Loscil in this performance at Studio Bell, co-presented by the National Music Centre and Sled Island. Admission: $18-20
  • December 5 (7:00pm), 6 (7:00pm), 7 (2:00pm): New York New York - A Broadway Revue - at The Grand (608 1 St. SW), 42nd Street Productions presents this love letter to the musical theatre of Broadway. The Livin' in Swing Orchestra will provide a live soundtrack while local performers dance and sing their way through a huge set list of favorites. Admission: $30
  • December 3 - December 8 (times vary - see link): Shakespeare Company: the Merchant of Venice - at Reeve Theatre (210 University Ct. NW), Seana Mckenna is presenting, one of Canada's most renowned stage actors, as Shylock. This play touches on themes of money, social injustice and love as events unfold.   • December 6 (7:30pm), 7 & 8 (2:30pm): A Cowtown Christmas - a cSpace King Edward (1721 29 Ave SW), Cowtown Opera's annual holiday spectacular returns to cSpace. Admission: $30 regular adult, $20 for students.
  • December 7 (10:00am-4:00pm): East Village Tree Lot by 31st Scouts - at The Bounce Games Park (439 8 Ave SE), there will be a one-day-only Christmas tree sale in East Village. Choose between apartment-height BC fir ($20), full-sized BC fir ($35) or balsam fir (shaped and wrapped for $65) - cash only.
  • December 8 (2:00pm): Winter Fantasia - at Bella Concert Hall, celebrate the season with this special winter showcase. This event will include performances from the MRU Conservatory's Ariel, Arietta and Arioso choirs. Admission: $10-30
  • December 8 (6:00pm-8:00pm): A Christmas with Calgary Chinese Orchestra - at TransAlta Pavilion (MRU), Mount Royal University Conservatory presents a holiday show by the Calgary Chinese Orchestra. Admission: Entry is by donation.
  • December 8 (7:00pm): Renaissance Treasures I: Gloria! - at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, the Calgary Renaissance Singers & Players will begin a historic 50th anniversary season with a collection of favorites from the Renaissance and beyond. Admission: $15-25
  • December 8, 12, 19, 21 (7:30pm-9:30pm): A Christmas Carol at Lougheed House - Steven Methot will be performing his solo rendition of Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol' where he'll act out dialogues of all 30 characters from memory. Admission: $25-35
