Residential Support Worker – PH0421

Salary: Starting Wage $19.25/hour Completion of 90-day Probation Wage $20.25/hour
Location: Calgary Area/Region
Calgary Alternative Residential Services (CARS program) at CASS is Looking for an individual to work 4 on, 4 off shift rotation at one of our overnight staffed residences; from 4:00 pm to 8:00 am or 24-hour shift when the rotation lands on the weekend. Previous experience in a staffed home is an asset, including familiarity with lifts, meal preparation, and medication administration. The successful candidate must be comfortable with providing personal care. Additional strong skills in documentation, interpersonal relationships, communication, and professionalism would assist in the position’s success.
The hourly rate begins at $19.25/hour and will increase to $20.25 upon completing a successful probationary period (90 days), completing mandatory training, and submitting complete documents.
Key knowledge and responsibilities include:
- Meal preparation, personal care routines, medication administration, case notes, cleaning and sanitizing the home, other household duties as needed, client engagement and preferred activities
- Openness to creating weekly activity plans, and sourcing out activities based on client interests
- Creating and engaging in recreational activities
- Support to find and maintain volunteer roles
- To assist the client in the development and monitoring of goals and objectives indicated in
- Individual Support Plan (ISP)
- To support individuals in specifically identified areas to live independently or increase independence in the community. This may include daily living skills, community inclusion, recreation & leisure activities, and management of health-related issues
- To comply with the client support contract
- To maintain a professional relationship with the client and guardian (if applicable).
- Written documentation to be completed and provided to direct supervisors in a timely manner i.e. Monthly Summaries, Time Sheets, Critical Incident Reports
- Provide hands-on support and guidance to the client
- To liaise with other staff/sub-contractors, coordinators, or other community supports as required (i.e., natural supports, external agencies, advocacy groups, funders)
- Able to work with minimal supervision
Required Education:
Diploma or equivalent experience in Disability Studies
Required Training:
CASS requires that all employees, sub-contractors, practicum students, and volunteers are current in the following training: (must be completed within 60 days of hire)
- Abuse Awareness Training(Includes PDD Abuse Protocol)
- Occupational Health and Safety Awareness Training for Workers (Alberta)*
- Using a Fire Extinguisher Training
- WHMIS 2015 Training
- Emergency First Aid – Level A CPR & AED or Standard First Aid – Level A CPR & AED
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention
- Introduction to Your Role via Open Future Learning
- Challenging Behaviours via Open Future Learning
- Challenging Behaviours II: Forms and Policy
- Workplace Violence and Harassment
- Infection Prevention and Control

- Medication Administration Training
- Proof of Immunization Records – All new hires will be required to be fully immunized against COVID-19 for their first day of work
CASS also requires of every employee:
- A Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check
- Completion of a “Statement of Confidentiality”
- Completion of a “Confirmation of Understanding of the CASS Policy & Procedures”
Experience:
Knowledge in supporting adults with developmental disabilities preferred
Other Requirements:
A vehicle and valid driver’s license is considered an asset.
