The CBC Calgary Reads book sale is gearing up again, and accepting book donations at the Calgary Food Bank (5000 11 St SE) and the Calgary Curling Club (720 3 St NW). These donations will be accepted until May 6, then sorted and put out for sale from May 11-13. You can find out more at

That City of Calgary is looking for input on our budget for 2019-2022. Have your say by going to You do not need to give personal info to give your feedback, but they do ask some demographic questions that you can choose to answer (or not) at the end.



Apr 19: Boomerang Bags YYC@ North Mount Pleasant Art Centre (523 27 Ave NW) starts at 6:30pm. This is a night for people to come together and Sew, cut, iron, stamp, etc. old bags into new ones. Supplies will be provided, but donations of fabric, sewing supplies, irons etc. are welcome.

Apr 20: Calgary Night Market@ Eau Claire Mall. 5-11pm. This is the last indoor night market before the summer comes and the event heads outdoors.

Apr 21: Law Day 2018@ Calgary Courts Centre (601 5 St SW) Tour the Court Centre, get a free legal consultation, or watch a mock trial from 9am-3pm.

Apr 21: Beacon Original Art Annual Spring Art Exhibition and Sale@ Bridgeland-Riverside Community Association (917 Centre Ave NE). 25 artists will be showing and selling their work at this free event. See for details.

Apr 21: Tangled Tree Arts Spring Artisan Market@ Bearspaw Lions Hall (25240 Nagway Rd NW). This Market features 21 artists and their work. has all of the info.

Apr21: Climb for Wilderness@ the Bow Building (500 Centre Street SE) This yearly fundraiser has moved from the Calgary Tower to the bow building. Participant registration is open until April 20, each climber must fundraise $75 to make the climb. Water, snacks, entertainment and an incredible view will be available on the 54th floor—after you’ve made it to the 55th floor! Please see for more info about this event.


April 16-22: Calgary Underground Film Festival@ The Globe Cinema (617 8 Ave SW). All info about the films being shown this year, prices and times can be found here:

April 19: nêhiyawak - AlbertaSpotlight Series@ Studio Bell National Music Centre (850 4 St SE). 8pm. This concert series is intended to explore and celebrate local talent. Admission is $15.

Apr 19: Musicians for CKUA finding drive event@ The Ironwood (1229 9 Ave SE). starts at 7pm, reservations are recommended. Admission is $10 to this local live music event, that includes a silent auction and supports the CKUA listener supported radio station.

April 20-21: Ujamaa Grandmas Fabric and Yarn Sale@ Woodcliff United Church (5010 Spruce Drive SW). If you knit, crochet, sew or felt, this sale is your chance to get incredible materials at affordable prices. Admission to the sale is $2, and most skeins/fabrics are $1-$2. The sale runs Fri 2:30-7:30pm, and Sat 9am-2pm.

April 20-28: Calgary Poutine Week@ Various locations. has all of the details to get some great poutine and help support Mealshare, a non-profit venture that provides a free meal to someone in need for every poutine sold.

April 21: The Fibre Shindig@ Hiilhurst Sunnyside Community Association (1320 5 Ave NW) Admission to this fibre arts sale is $5, both materials to make your own fibre art, and finished projects will be available for sale from 10am-5pm.

Apr 21-22: Calgary Pet Expo@ Spruce Meadows. Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for seniors, kids 12 and under get in free. Sat 10am-6pm, Sun 11am-5pm. Entertainment, “ask a vet”, products, and pet servies will be on display.

April 21-22: Spring Frenzy@ C-Square, East Village (7 Ave & 5 St SE). This yearly food truck bonanza also has art, vendors and live music to enjoy while you celebrate the (tentative) start of Spring in Calgary!
