Joni Righthand, winner of the 2016 IDPD Calgary Entrepreneurship award, is launching The Punctuation Association’s 5th book! CASS (2335 30 Ave NE) is excited to be hosting Joni’s book launch on Sept 15, 2017 from 11:30 am – 1 pm. There will be light refreshments and a reading by the author at noon, followed by a Q&A where Joni will answer questions about her creative process, starting her own business, and how she came up with the stories and characters.

Joni is currently working on a blog to help keep her fans up to date on the Punctuation Association’s escapades, but until then you can see her featured in an article in the Calgary Metro at .


It’s still pride week! There are TONS of fun activities for everyone, including the parade on Sept. 3 from Noon-1:30pm, and a big party on Prince’s Island from noon-6.

The Wilma Milson Club will be starting to host dances at the Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association again on September 9th, from 6:30-9:30pm. There is a schedule available at the office, and attached to this posting.

Aug 29: Sunnyside Open Stage @ containR site, Sunnyside. 5-8pm. Come on down to play or enjoy some music and meet new people.

Aug 31: International Overdose Awareness Day @ City Hall 11:30am-1pm. The tag line for this event is “Educate, Communicate, Connect”. Learn more about addiction and overdose from the people who experience it’s effects, and professionals in the field.

Aug 31: Human Centered Design Lunch & Learn @ emergeHUB (3515 17 Ave SE). This is a free event (but you will need to register at ). If you have an idea for a product or service, this might be a good place to take your idea to get a feel for how to help make it accessible.  

Sep 1-3: Fiesta Filipino @ Olympic Plaza. The schedule should be up at soon. Celebrate Filipino Culture for three days!

Sept 1-17: Mobile Skate Park @ Willow Ridge Community Association (680 Acadia Drive SE) M-F 3-7pm, S/S 10am-6pm. If you skateboard, rollerblade, or ride a scooter, come out for some fun this month. Helmets are mandatory and you will need to sign a waiver. More info is available if you call 311 or check out


Aug 30: $5 Weekly French Lesson @ Crowfoot Public Library (8665 Nose Hill Drive). For a drop-in fee of $5, you can join this weekly class that teaches French vocabulary. This week’s vocabulary is based on “Back to School.”

Aug 31: Robocop’s 30th Anniversary @ Globe Cinema (617 8 Ave SW) Movie starts at 7pm. Tickets are $10. You can buy them in advance at: (please note: this venue is not wheelchair accessible)
