Here are some ideas for outings and fun things for the week of December 10 - December 16:

  • It's Christmas Time! Heritage Park is awesome this time of year. Once Upon A Christmas is going on from December 10 - 22. Regular admission applies.
  • December 10 - December 31 (times vary - see link): Noel Indoor Light Park and Christmas Market - at Nutrien Western Event Centre (Stampede Tr. SE), Canada's largest indoor light park and Christmas market is coming to Calgary! Buy tickets early to save and check out all the attractions such as a interactive light park, food trucks, craft beer and spirits, Santa's Village, an artisan market and more!   • December 10 - 20 (Fridays: 4:00pm-9:00pm, Saturdays & Sundays: 10:00am-6:00pm): Holiday Market Collective - at BMO Centre, Stampede Park, Market Collective is holding its 11th annual holiday edition over the course of three weekends. There will be more than 150 local vendors, live music, interactive workshops, games, galleries, a food truck alley and more! Admission: $6 - one admission if for the entire weekend. :)

FREE:

  • December 12 - 15 (10:00am-2:00pm): Merry Grinchmas - at Calgary Farmers' Market, the Grinch and Max are visiting Calgary Farmers' Market during its Calgary Christmas Market. On December 12 and 15, the Grinch will be roaming around the market and stopping for selfies. 

  • December 14 (11:30am-2:00pm): Free Snapshots with Santa at Country Hills Village Shopping Centre -  head over to get free snapshots with Santa and more! There will be caroling, free coffee and hot chocolate, face painting and sales throughout the mall.
  • December 14 (7:00pm): Love Came Down – at First Baptist Church, join in for the annual Christmas concert. The concert will include performances from the church's vocal and handbell choirs, pipe organist and pianist.
  • December 15 (11:30am-2:00pm): Free Snapshots with Santa at WestHills Towne Centre -  head over to get free snapshots with Santa and more! There will be caroling, free food, face painting and sales throughout the mall.

PAID:

  • December 12 (4:00pm): Ginger Bread Cookie Decorating - at Cibo 17th Ave, there will be two gingerbread cookie-decorating sessions. Cookies come in bundles of six and start at$12 per bundle. Enjoy a cappuccino or hot chocolate while you decorate.
  • December 12 (5:00pm-10:00pm): Spark After Dark Body Worlds: Animal Inside Out Edition - at Telus Spark, explore beneath the surface of the animal kingdom at this month's edition of 'Spark after Dark'. This adults-only evening will expand on theme, with opportunities to take part in dissections of real sheep brains and hearts, plus an anatomy sketching workshop with a local artist, adventurous food options and more! Admission: $22-26
  • December 12 (7:00pm): Alberta Spotlight: Mariel Buckley - at Studio Bell, Calgary singer/songwriter Mariel Buckley will take the stage for a special performance. His brand is contemporary country calls to the classic era of the genre, with the singer's masterful songwriting ability shining through the modern country norm with an authentic touch. Admission: $10-15
  • December 12 (7:00pm): Stand-up Comedy - at Born Colorado Brewing (4, 313 36 Ave SE), local comedian Brittany Lysend recently released her debut comedy album and will headline an evening of stand-up comedy. Admission: $20
  • December 12 (7:00pm-9:00pm): Lighting the Way  - at Motel Theatre (205 8 Ave SE), for one night, you can see short plays that approach the topic of climate change from diverse and imaginative perspectives as well as participate in long table discussions with other community members. Tickets are by donation at the door.
  • December 13 (7:00pm): The Festival For All at Festival Hall - this non-denominational holiday part at Festival Hall is a mash-up of an ugly sweater party and a concert by local bands. Wear your ugliest and itchiest sweater and head to Inglewood for performances by Shuffalo, Cold Little Crow, Yvette and Mita.  Admission: $10-20
  • December 14 (2:00pm):  - at SCA Community Hall (277 Strathcona Drive SW), join the residents of Amica Aspen Woods senior lifestyle residence as they celebrate the season with these magical performances. The Amica Singers, a 35 member choir will perform a medley to help you get into the holiday spirit. There will be giveaways, holiday shopping and a food drive. Admission: $5
  • December 14 (7:00pm): Dave McCann - at The Gallery House (119 Nottingham Road NW), catch singer/songwriter Dave McCann as he brings his distinct brand of finely-crafted folk to the galley. Admission: $25
  • December 14 (7:00pm): Gloria! Celebrating the Season Together - at River Park Church (3818 14A Street SW), join the Calgary Multicultural Choir for this performance of festive songs from around the globe. The choir, which consists of 62 members representing 28 countries, will present a program of traditional songs and contemporary arrangements originating from several cultures, with some sung in their native languages. Please donate to the Calgary Food Bank at this event if able. Admission: $15
  • December 14 (7:30pm): Sounds of the Season - at Bella Concert Hall, celebrate the seasons with an evening of song courtesy of the Mount Royal University Conservatory ensembles. Expect plenty of holiday favorites, plus a few classics with a twist. Admission: $10-30
