Hi everyone,

Here are some ideas for outings and fun things for the week of November 5 - 11:

Kevin's Poppy Sale is on November 6, 11:00am-1:00pm at the CASS office. Come and get a handmade poppy to support our veterans. Each poppy is $3 each - $2 is donated to the Legion. :)

  • November 6 (6:30pm-8:30pm): Zero-Waste Meet Up– at Brewsters Brewing Company (834, 11 Ave SW), Plastic YYC host a salon-style meet up of waste conscious folks every four months. This edition will talk about the waste challenges during the holiday season with a special focus on the fashion industry. Guests will enjoy special prices on food and beverage throughout this event. Guests are asked to bring a donation of a reusable food or beverage container.   • November 9 (10:00am-3:00pm): Bowness Community Association Holiday Craft Fair - at the Bowness Community Association, head to the charming northwest community to browse over 100 local vendors. You can expect Christmas cards, holiday decorations, homemade food items, hand-crafted jewellery and clothing, books, visual art, photography and more! There will also be photos with Santa, a 50/50 draw and food and beverage sold. 

  • November 9 (10:00am-4:00pm): The Group Art Society of Calgary Fall Show and Sale - at St. Peter's Anglican Church, the Group Art society of Calgary has been creating original works since 1968 - they will be hosting its annual fall show and sale. Bring a food donation to the door to be entered for a prize draw for a painting.

  • November 9 (11:00am-4:00pm): Celebrations -  at Mona Lisa Artists' Materials (1518 7 St SW), Caprices Fine Arts presents a day of fine art and music at Mona Lisa's new art salon space. It will exhibit contemporary work, including painting, drawing, mixed media and photography. There will also be arts doing henna on-site.
  • November 10 (1:00pm-2:00pm): A Conversation with Quincy Troupe - at Central Library, join legendary NYC jazz poet Quincy Troupe for this special conversation at Central Library.
  • November 11 (10:00am): Remembrance Day at The Military Museums - at the Military Museums (4520 Crowchild Trail SW), check out the ceremonies going on. There will be Acts of Remembrance and Laying of Wreaths. You can also check out inside the military museums.Parking is very limited - it's best to park in and around the residential neighborhood and walk in.

  • November 6-10 (times vary): JazzYYC Canadian Jazz Festival - Immerse yourself in the diverse and dynamic world of jazz as the annual JazzYYC Canadian Jazz Festival returns for its sixth edition. You will hear from Montreal's Jazzlab Orchestra, to innovative quartets like NYC's Landline. Admission: varies, depending on venue.   • November 7-10 (times vary): Femme Wave - Calgary's feminist music and arts festival returns! Admission: prices vary, depending on venue. For more information: http://www.femmewave.com/
  • November 7 (7:30pm): The Vagina Monologues - at the University Theatre (230 University Ct. NW), The Women's Resource Centre presents the seventh annual production of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues, which is a fictional narration that's based on interviews Ensler conducted with more than 200 women. This performance joins a global effort to stop violence against women and girls.  Admission: $15
  • November 10 (7:00pm): Andrea Petrity Trio CD Release- at King Eddy (438 9 Ave SE), celebrate the release of What if I from Calgary's Andrea Petrity Trio as they perform tracks from the album live. Admission: $20
  • November 11 (10:00am-5:00pm): Remembrance Day at Studio Bell - there will be special activities going on to honor our veterans. There will be a performance by the Southern Stardust Big Band, a 20-piece orchestra playing dance  music from the '40's golden era of big bands and more.
