This coming week is supposed to be a bit more temperate, so make sure to get outside after Calgary’s longest cold snap in over two decades!

There will be free public swim and skate times at City of Calgary Facilities on Feb 18th for Family Day. For exact times and locations, please visit .

Block Heater, the Calgary Folk Festival’s winter music festival runs from Feb 21-23. Admission varies from Free concerts to weekend wristbands and single-show tickets. has all the info you need.



Feb 18: Ice Skating (with free skate rentals) @ Sheraton Eau Claire/Princes Island Park (255 Barclay Parade SW) 10am-2pm. The Sheraton Hotel is celebrating 20 years of business by renting out skates for free for the day, to use at the nearby skating rink under the bridge to Prince’s Island Park.

Feb 20: Something’s Gotta Give Movie screening @ The Plaza Theatre (1133 Kensington Rd NW) 6:30pm. This free movie, starring Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton and Keanu Reeves, is being presented by Science in the Cinema. after the movie there will be a discussion about cardiovascular disease.

Feb 21: Employment Preparation Event @ The Mustard Seed (102 11 Ave SE) 2-4pm. Complimentary hair cuts, interview clothing, resume assistance, etc. Register at

Feb 22: The Rivers District Master Plan: What’s in it for YYC Arts & Culture? @ Memorial Park Library (1221 12 Ave SW) 5-6:15pm. With all of the talk from politicians and the business sector about plans for the East Village/ Stampede Park, This event gives you a chance to look at the potential plans from an arts and culture perspective.

Feb 23: Black History Month Celebration @ Marlborough Mall (433 Marlborough Way NE) 1-4pm. Live Music, Dance & a fashion show in the upper food court area.

Feb 23: A Celebration of Caribbean Black History Month @ Evergreen Community Spaces (1709 8 Ave NE) 5-8pm. Performances, interactive booths from each island’s association, food, and black history presentations.

Feb 25-March 4: Human Bonspiel @ Olympic Plaza (228 8 Ave SE).  Come watch some corporate types get thrown down the ice on innertubes, in this more-than full-sized curling event, each lunch hour from Feb 25-March 1, with the finals on March 4th.


Feb 18: Family Day with Fred Penner @ National Music Centre (850 4 St SE) For a nostalgia-fuelled family day, check out this performance. Performances will be at 11am and 2 pm. Regular admission rates apply.

Feb 21: Alberta Views Live: Election Deep Dive @ Memorial Park Library (1221 2 St SW) 7pm. $10 admission. Find out more about the inevitable, upcoming, provincial election

Feb 23: 2-for-1 admission for National Aviation Day @ The Hangar Flight Museum (4629 McCall Way NE) 10-4pm.

Feb 23: Ethnik Art Exhibition & Fashion Show @ cSPACE King Edward (1721 29 Ave SW) 6-8pm. Diverse and Inclusive fashion and art. Tickets are $25 with a portion of the proceeds going towards Studio C and the InDefinite Arts Centre.
