Hi Everyone,

The Family Day long weekend is here, and lots of things are going on around town. Enjoy your long weekend, and please note that the CASS Tuesday food program will not be running on February 20th.  We will be back with more food next Tuesday, February 27.

There is an ongoing Thursday noon-hour inclusive, supportive dance program at CommunityWise Resource Centre (223 12 Ave SW) The classes are by donation (suggested 10-15$), and all you need to do is drop in. Classes run until March 8th. See https://www.facebook.com/events/1975378282502780/ for more info.

Once again, CASS is part of the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) for the 2017 tax season. Tax information packages will be ready to be picked up on Thursday February 22, for/by CASS clients interested in getting their taxes prepared and filed through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program. All that you need to do is fill out the info sheets in the package, and collect your tax slips (T4’s, T5507’s, etc) then bring the whole thing back to CASS.

There are two options for filing with the CASS CVITP program: You can book an appointment to have your taxes prepared while you wait (recommended), by contacting the Resource Facilitator.  Otherwise, you can drop your tax package off at the office, and it will be prepared, filed, and sent back to you. We recommend that the taxpayer is present when taxes are prepared to minimize the amount of times that we need to contact you/the taxpayer for extra information, or signatures.

Please submit your tax information by April 10 help ensure that your taxes are filed before the cut off.  Please note that the CVITP is meant for low-income earners with a simple tax situation, who do not wish to have the full-service support that might come from a paid tax preparation service. If you are looking for tax advice, or year-round contact with your tax preparer, we can recommend a tax preparation service that better fits your needs.
