Our neighbours at the Centre 4 Artistic Soles offers inclusive visual and fibre arts programs for all abilities, and they are accepting registrations for their summer programs. I have hard copies of registration forms at the office or you can register online at . General arts and crafts, basic food safety, card making, and quilting are all offered.

The Youth Culinary Arts Program is starting up an 8-week food training program for people between the ages of 16 & 24. This training focuses onfood safety and developing employable skills for working in the food industry. For more information, head to .

The Calgary Stampede is coming up! We have not been given free tickets this year, but here is a list of free/cheap entry days:

·         Thursday July 6: Sneak a Peak $9 entry 5pm-1am

·         Friday July 7: Parade Day Free entry 11am-1:30pm.

·         Sunday July 9: Family Day- Free Entry 8am-Noon (w/ free pancake breakfast on the grounds for the first 25,000 guests.

·         Tuesday July 11: Seniors day: Free all day for seniors 65+

·         Wednesday July 12: Kids’ day: Free entry for kids 12 & under from 7-9am, $2 admission for the rest of the day.

Support staff get free entry when they enter with the person they are supporting, and will receive a wrist band for re-entry for the rest of the day.

Also, for the duration of the stampede,Olympic Plaza will be transformed into“Rope Square” Which will have daily breakfasts, activities, and a resounding celebratory spirit.

Other ways to save:

Ride all day passes from Safeway/Sobeys for $37.85

Buy 2 general admission entries and 2 Coke products at Mac’s for $27.

Coke 12-packs have a 2-for-1 voucher that will be valid July 10-13 from 5-7pm.

June 26: Music Aerobics Dance Party @ Village Square Leisure Centre. 10-11:30am. It’s a hoedown at VSLC! Please see the attached flyer for more info.

June 26: Art Matters: Sounding @ Theatre Junction Grand (608 1 St SW). Come out to connect with Calgary artists and be a part of the conversation around how artists can support each other to a build a strong community. There will be snacks and refreshments available at this free event.

June 28: Community Hubs Launch @ Village Square Leisure Centre. 3pm. The United Way, City of Calgary and Rotary Club of Calgary have been working on building a number of community hubs. These hubs are meant to act as accessible community living rooms, to “connect, socialize, plan, and host community activities”. There will be six hubs opening over the next five years, in Bowness, Greater Forest Lawn, North of McKnight, Sunalta, Village Square & Vista Heights. June 26: June Poetry Slam @ Dickens Pub (1000 9 Ave SW) Show starts at 8pm. Admission is $5 at the door.

June 29-July 2: Otafest @ Telus Convention Centre (120 9 Ave SE) Tickets for “Calgary’s premier Anime Festival”  start at $25 and can be found with all of the other information about this event at

July 1: Outdoor Skateboarding competition and live music @ Distortion (3828 MacLeod Trail S) Noon-8pm. Admission is $10.
