East Town Get Down is back! Calgary’s most affordable music festival ($40 gets you into, and out of, everything) spans multiple venues in a 5-block stretch of 17th Ave SE on May 25. Bands, Maps, Ticket sales and more can be found at http://www.easttowngetdown.ca/

The City of Calgary is giving away compost again this spring. Bring your own containers, gloves, shovels, etc. to the Shephard Compost Site (12111 68 St SE) to get 100 Litres of free compost. This is a busy event, but the lines move quickly. The Calgary Children’s Festival is back, and totally different! This kid-focused, but fun-for-everyone event seems easy to navigate, and has free events taking place at Shelf Life books (1302 4 St SW) on Saturday May 25 & Sunday May 26. May 22: Hidden in Plain Sight – Bow River Flood Protection in Eau Claire @ South end of the Peace Bridge, 6pm. Take a walk and learn about the flood mitigation that is a part of the design of the area. May 24-26: Calgary Medieval Faire & Artisan Market @ Crossroads Market (1235 26 Ave SE) Costume contest, re-enactments, and a ton of fun things. See http://calgarymedievalfaire.com/ for details.

May 24-Jun 8: Suncor Stage One Festival of New Work @ Lunchbox Theatre (160 115 9 Ave SE) this is a series of one-act plays, performed at Noon and 6pm. Find out more at http://www.lunchboxtheatre.com/stage-one-festival-2019

May 25: Hawkwood Interpretive Plant Walk @ West side of Hawkcliff off-leash park () 10 am. Learn more about our plant neighbours and enjoy a stroll through the area. Donations are accepted, but not required.

May 25: Spring Market @ Falconridge/Castleridge Community Association (95 Falshire Dr NE) 10am-2pm. Lots of activities and vendors. Calgary Dollars accepted. If you would like to be a vendor, contact nicole.neve@calgary.ca. Tables cost $20, which will be reimbursed if you attend a vendor workshop called “market success, community building”.

May 25: Roller Skate Party @ Junior Varsity Volleyball Training Centre (#130 Smed Lane SE) family skte runs from 6-8:30pm, night skate from 9-11:30pm. Tickets are $15 at the door, skate rentals are available for $5.

May 26: Ladies Only Self Defense 101 @ Odyssey Martial Arts (#125 4800 104 Ave SE) Noon-3pm. $39 + Gst, call (4030 266-2006 to register.

May 26: Market Collective @ BMO Centre (20 Roundup Way SW) 10am-6pm. Admission is $6, there will be 150 vendors, live music, workshops, and even a skatepark.
