CASS webmail (located at is currently unavailable.

Our service providers are aware of the problem and are working on getting it resolved. I will update this news posting when service is restored.

In the meantime, email continues to be available via IMAP, and your dedicated mail clients such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Mac OS X Mail, or your smartphone email clients should continue to work. If you have never set up a dedicated email client to access your email address, you may want to check out the attached document for some instructions on how to do this now.

Sorry for any inconvenience,

Our CASS Client Advisory suggested this newsletter should be for clients only. Since we want the newsletter to be for everyone, staff and clients, we have separated the client news from the staff news.

We want to encourage all clients to contribute to this newsletter so there is enough material to keep the staff news separate from the client news! The deadline for all articles is the 15th of the previous month. They can be emailed to or handed in to reception by the 15th.

The CASS Policy and Procedures Committee has been working hard on revisions to the CASS Policy & Procedures Manual. Many of these revisions were required by our accreditation body (the Alberta Council of Disability Services – ACDS); some additional changes have been made to reflect current actual practices in place at CASS. The revised Policy & Procedures Manual is available on the CASS Website on the "links" page, and also on the "Forms and Documents" page under "Staff Resources". As many of the policy changes pertain to the protection of clients and staff, all CASS staff will need to re-acquaint themselves with the new Manual and sign a new Confirmation of Understanding Form indicating they have read and understood it. If staff have any questions, they should contact their supervisor for clarification.

CASS is committed to staff development, training and safety. In accordance with these values, CASS is in the process of rolling out new training initiatives and has updated mandatory training requirements for all CASS Employees. It is our belief that these training initiatives will further build the skills and capacity of staff to provide leading-edge support services to people with barriers to inclusion

Mandatory training – now required by all CASS employees is as follows:

  • First Aid & CPR
  • Abuse Awareness—New
  • Health & Safety Training
  • Values Based Practices Training - New
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention - New

Please note that the Health & Safety Training was revised in October 2011 and we are requiring all employees to complete the new training as soon as possible. Employees may also be required to complete position-specific training in addition to the universal training requirements listed above. Check with your supervisor for more information.
