CARS Support Home Provider (contract)

Calgary Alternative Residential Services is accepting applications for the position of Support Home Provider on an ongoing basis, to ensure a good match for both staff and clients. In this position, support will be provided in your own home, or in the client’s home, focusing on increased skill development. Responsibilities of these positions include (but are not limited to); assisting our clients with daily living skills such as budgeting, household management, meal preparation, hygiene, and medical appointments, providing emotional support, recreation, and leisure activities, and assisting with volunteer opportunities.

Previous experience in providing community/outreach support to adults with developmental disabilities is preferred. Required Education:

Diploma or equivalent experience in Disability Studies

Required Training:

CASS requires that all employees, sub-contractors, practicum students, and volunteers are current in the following training: (must be completed within 60 days of hire)

  • Abuse Awareness Training(Includes PDD Abuse Protocol)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Awareness Training for Workers (Alberta)*
  • Using a Fire Extinguisher Training
  • WHMIS 2015 Training
  • Emergency First Aid – Level A CPR & AED or Standard First Aid – Level A CPR & AED
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention
  • Introduction to Your Role via Open Future Learning
  • Challenging Behaviours via Open Future Learning
  • Challenging Behaviours II: Forms and Policy
  • Workplace Violence and Harassment
  • Infection Prevention and Control
  • Covid-19 Employee Health and Safety
  • Trauma-Informed Care Training
  • Harm Reduction Training
  • Medication Administration Training
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Proof of Immunization Records – All new hires will be required to be fully immunized against COVID-19 for their first day of work

CASS also requires of every employee:

  • A Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Completion of a “Statement of Confidentiality”
  • Completion of a “Confirmation of Understanding of the CASS Policy & Procedures”

Experience:

Knowledge in supporting adults with developmental disabilities preferred
