Here are some ideas for outings and fun things for the week of March 4 – 10:

  • Fresh Routes – a mobile grocery store that is bringing affordable and healthy food to you! Check this link for locations and schedules: https://yyc.rescuefood.ca/fresh-routes/
  • Need some snuggles with a kitty or a cat? There are 45 minute kitty visits for $10 at the Regal Cat Cafe.  https://www.regalcatcafe.com/ There’s also a new cat cafe in the Calgary NW called Cafe and Mi- if you make a $5 beverage purchase, you’ll be able to visit their cats – https://www.cafeandmi.com/rules

  • March 5 (5:00pm): The Bright Side Art Show Opening Reception – at Theatre 1308 (1308 Edmonton Trail NE), join Theatre 1308 for the Bright Side Art Show’s opening reception. The exhibit was curated by Julya Hajnoczky and features work by numerous local artists. 
  • March 5 & 6 (5:00pm-10:00pm), 7 (11:00pm-6:00pm) & 8 (11:00am-4:00pm): What the Hell Happened to Her? Painting by Heather Buchanan – at NVRLND (1048 21 Ave SE), Avenue Top 40 Under 40 2019 alumna Heather Buchanan is having a limited-run art show with special programs.
  • March 7 (3:00pm-6:00pm): Open Mic Hosted by The Enablers – at SunnyCider (1, 3300 14 Ave NE), performers of all stripes are invited to share their creativity at SunnyCider. Whether you want to ready aloud some poetry, play a song or jam with other musicians, this free-admission event is waiting for you.

  • March 4 (7:00pm): Oliver Sacks: His Own Life –  at Cineplex Eau Claire, Calgary International Film Festival has this film that is about a neurologist and storyteller whose groundbreaking work was not acknowledged until decades later. His struggle for acceptance in the medical community was also hindered by the homophobia he faced and his battle with drug addiction. Admission: $13-15
  • March 5 (7:00pm-9:00pm): The Walrus Talks Exploration –  at Telus Spark, the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research presents the latest Walrus Talk to come to Calgary. Mark Chen, Kate Harris, Daryl Haggard, Along Fyshe and Jack Mustard will speak for seven minutes each on understanding our universe from the center of the Earth to the far reaches out of outer space. Admission: $12-20
  • March 5, 6 & 7 (8:00pm): Project InTandem: Double-Bill Dance Production –  at The Grand (608 1 St SW), enjoy an evening full of contemporary dance. It will be featuring local Calgary arts and dancers. The project aims to provide emerging Alberta dancers with a platform to express their talents. Admission: $25-30
  • March 6 (8:00pm): The Calgary Jazz Composers Collective, Vol. 2 – at Theatre 1308 (1308 Edmonton Trail NE), this group will be performing. The group consistently aims to create and present new music in all of their concert series. Admission: $25
  • March 6 (9:00pm): IWD 2020: A Journey Through Time & Bass – a Junction (628 8 Ave SW), Girls on Decks, DnB Girls and So So Fresh Productions are celebrating International Women’s Day with a massive dance party! The lineup includes headliners SHORTEE from Los Angeles, and Jodie B from Kelowna plus 10 other female DJs and musicians. There will also be live dance performances and art installed by Big Kitty. A portion of the proceeds will go the New Beginnings, a company that supports women to move out of dangerous and violent situations.  Admission: $20
  • March 7 (11:00am): Sensory Friendly Screening: Frozen II – at Canyon Meadows Cinemas, there will be a sensory friendly screening of the film so that everyone, including anyone with sensitivities to noise or who don’t like to be in total darkness, can enjoy the movie.  Admission: $5
  • March 7 (7:30pm): No Business, Like Show Business! – at Eckhardt-Grammate Hall (206 University Ct NW), the next concert by The Festival Chorus will take place. The program for the event will be a combination of Broadway show tunes and numbers from Hollywood films. The chorus will be joined by new accompanist Cody Obst and guest jazz musicians. Admission: $15-25
  • March 7 (8:00pm-10:00pm): Improv! The Musical – at The Alexandra Centre (922 9 Ave SE), there will be a troupe of improvisers that will sing and dance their way into musical theatre experience like no other. Admission: $12-15
  • March 7 (8:00pm): Tadpole #2: Rob Magill & Outside Help (Nate Waters) – at Theatre 1308, Nate Waters and Rob Magill will be performing a genre-blurring concert. This performance will bring together two solo acts for a unique performance.  Admission: $17
