What’s your name, title and how long have you been working in your current role here?

Terry Ginther, I am the reception relief and have been working in that position since 2012.

What other roles have you had in the agency if any?

I covered off for Money Matters in the past and am currently the chairperson for the Behaviour Review Committee. I was involved in developing the Challenging Behaviour Part 11 which is a required course for employment.

What experience do you have providing direct support to people if any (doesn’t need to be in a work capacity, it can be friends, family, volunteering etc.)?

I went ‘back to school’ at 39 (Mount Royal) to get my Rehab Diploma, working full time and taking courses part-time. For me, this is an example that one can accomplish much when putting in the work needed.

I now have 50+ years of working in the field of Disability Services, from working frontline for many years to Supervising homes. I have been a Support Home Provider for PDD for 25 years.

What do you want the community to know about the people we serve?

They are contributing members of society when given the necessary tools that they may need, no different from what we may need any given day to succeed.

How do you help improve disability inclusion in our community?

Open doors for the people we serve, there are endless possibilities for them to experience and master.

How does your cultural background and/or lived experience contribute to your work here?

I grew up on a farm in Eastern Alberta and learned what hard work is, and that success is achieved when you focus on the outcome while enjoying the journey. Dedication to always following through on what I offer. I focus on problem-solving and thinking outside the box, by creative thinking.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from the people we serve?

They tell it how it is. And for myself, that I take nothing for granted.

What is your favourite part about working at Calgary Alternative Support Services?

The diverse services that CASS offers, a fun atmosphere and there is always something new to learn. Getting to know the Individuals we work with and their Support workers.

Looking back, what have you achieved here that you are most proud of?

Being able to be work in the various areas that I do and learn new skills.

What do you like to do for fun outside of work?

Gardening is #1, reading, and hobbies/crafts of a variety. I’m very much a sports fan and always involved in family/friend gatherings.
