Here are some ideas for outings and fun things for the weeks of January 14 - 20:

FREE:

  • January 25 (1:00pm-4:00pm): Marlborough Mall Chinese New Year - Marlborough Mall will be hosting a free afternoon of celebration to ring in the Year of the Rat. The mall's family park and foot court will host performers, a photo booth with traditional garments by the Chinese Community Service Association, crafts for kids and more.
  • January 27 (6:45pm): Beyond Housing - at Calgary Central Library, Patricia A. Whelan Performance Hall - this new documentary series tackles homelessness and, importantly, the individual stories of those who have experienced it. Made right here in Calgary, the documentary will premiere at Central Library.

  • January 21 (6:20pm): Cirque Flip Fabrique: Blizzard - at Jack Singer Concert Hall, Cirque Flip Fabrique brings its winter-themed show to the Jack Singer Concert Hall on January 21 as part of Arts Commons Presents. The Quebecois troupe will showcase its skills in acrobatics, juggling, aerial hoops, trampoline and original music during the family-friendly performance. Admission: $39-69
  • January 23 (7:00pm) Calgary Story Slam: Surprise - at Trolly 5 Brewpub (728 17 Ave SW), Calgary's competitive Story Slam series rolls on with an evening of stories inspired by a "surprise." Attendees can interpret this prompt in whatever way they choose and then tell a five-minute story from their lives. This is an open mic event!  Admission: $8
  • January 24 (7:30pm): Comedy Night at the Cider House - Sunnysider (1, 3300 14 Ave NE) will be hosting its first-ever comedy night! There will be a good line up of comedians like Austin Lonneberg, Sam Benty and Amy Edgar. Admission: $15
  • January 24 (10:00am-2:45pm): Share the Warmth - Calgary Farmers' Market will be hosting a day of fun activities in support of Inn From the Cold. Shoppers are asked to bring either a new winter clothing item or a $5 donation before decorating and eating a Jelly Modern Doughnut. 
  • January 24 (10:00pm): Alberta Spotlight: Caleb Hart & Roca Roots with Infamous Ray -at King Eddy (438 9 Ave SE) the installment of National Music Centre's Alberta Spotlight series is headlined by Caleb Hart and Roca Roots. Admission: $15
  • January 25 (9:00pm): Campaign Launch EP Release Party - at King Eddy (438 9 Ave SE), Calgary-based indie-folk act Campaign Launch will be releasing his first EP. Described as a mix  of indie rock and dark, soulful folk, Richard Constantine's songwriting is complemented live by Connor HR on bass and Bennett Mitchell on drums. Admission: $10 (at door only - arrive early. Limited seating)
  • January 25 (11:00am): Sensory Friendly Screening: The Addams Family -  at Canyon Meadows Cinemas, the animated reboot of the classic film The Addams Family is now playing. The theatre is hosting a sensory-friendly screening of the film so that everyone, including anyone with sensitivities to noise or who don't like total darkness can enjoy the movie. Admission: $5
  • January 25 (11:00am): Sensory Friendly Screening: Playmobil -  at Canyon Meadows Cinemas, the adventure-filled new film Playmobil will be playing. The theatre is hosting a sensory-friendly screening of the film so that everyone, including anyone with sensitivities to noise or who don't like total darkness can enjoy the movie. Admission: $5
  • January 25 (11:00am): Sensory Friendly Screening: Abominable -  at Canyon Meadows Cinemas, the heart-warming film Abominable will be playing. The theatre is hosting a sensory-friendly screening of the film so that everyone, including anyone with sensitivities to noise or who don't like total darkness can enjoy the movie. Admission: $5
