Due to Kane’s Diner's inability to stay open this evening, they have cancelled our Dinner Club Reservation for tonight. The new venue will be:

This restaurant is just down the street from KANE’s, the original  venue. Please spread the word if you know of any clients/staff who are planning on attending this evening.

There have been many natural disasters in the news lately - floods, landslides, tornadoes, etc. The CASS Health and Safety Committee would like to encourage all CASS Staff to be prepared! Every household should have a 72-hour Emergency Preparedness Kit in their homes. The kit should include supplies to support you and your family for three days in an emergency situation. Emergency services will respond in the event of a disaster, but they may be busy assisting those in immediate danger. Your kit should include the following:

Bottled water - 4 litres per person per day

Food that won't spoil and that requires minimal preparation - canned or dried food, energy bars, etc.

Food preparation tools - manual can opener, camp stove

Special needs items like prescription medication, eye glasses, baby supplies (if applicable), etc.

Wind-up or battery operated  flashlight (extra batteries if required)

Wind-up or battery operated radio (extra batteries if required)

Warm clothes and blankets or sleeping bags

First aid kit

Extra set of house keys and car keys

A copy of your family emergency plan (contact info of relatives)

Cash - small bills

Copies of important documents (birth certificates, passports, insurance policies, etc.

Plastic garbage bags

Waterproof, "strike anywhere" matches

Whistle

The Forms & Documents page under Staff Resources has been updated with new documents related to the Behaviour Review Committee, Planned Positive/Restrictives Procedures, and Functional Assessments. I have also used this as an opportunity to organize the page a little bit and bring some focus to some of the more important documents and reduce the size of our catch all "Miscellaneous Documents" section.

For those of you looking for the new LIS Invoice Form, you will not find it here on the CASS website. These forms are emailed to you from your CARS Coordinator after they fill out a section for you. Please check your CASS email* in order to find your LIS Invoice forms until further notice.

 

*Your CASS email can be accessed in a variety of ways, one of which is our webmail solution which can be found at https://webmail.c-a-s-s.org. If you are having difficulty accessing your CASS email, please contact your supervisor or CASS HR.

Basic Cooking Class – Session 9

Wednesdays; August 1 - September 19, 2012
9:30am - 11:30am at Co-Op Midtown Market - 1130 11 Ave SW
Cost: $55 (includes all materials)

This class will address the importance of basic cooking skills. We will be learning about proper food handling, storage and labeling. We also work towards understanding what it means to have a healthy balanced diet, and how to make healthy choices on a budget.

AND, most importantly, we will learn how to cook!!!
It is important for everyone to know that having independence in the kitchen is a responsibility, and to ensure that we have the knowledge, skills and tools to make sure it is a great experience each and every time.

Two great new facilitators, Nicole and Tina, along with their clients, will be leading the class with some new, fun curriculum to teach us how to make some delicious everyday, and not-so-everyday, dishes.

The Basic Cooking class is now taking registrations for the ninth session.  Individuals from all agencies and their support staff are welcome (no cost for support staff). Payment is due prior to August 1, and can be made in person, by cash or cheque (made out to CASS).  In the past this course has filled to capacity quickly so if you are interested please contact Crystal at 283-0611 ext 304 or by email: crystal.tite@c-a-s-s.org.
